at walmart on a saturday
the lines are so long they wrap through to the end of each shopping aisle
a mother is in front of me
her two sons
one young in the seat,
drops his pacifier at least 4 times
the other dutiful holds his mothers hand
i over hear her go to talk to the son who’s hand she’s holding
i assume she’s going to complain,
the long lines, her son dropping the pacifier
she gently says to her son
“see you can’t tell me we aren’t all connected”
she saw the long lines
and she saw connection
